Throughout the year, the Booster Club sponsors various events that help raise money for the band. Below is a listing of our events and ways you can participate.
Rock-A-Thon (August)
At the conclusion of band camp each year, the band and Angels gather in the school cafeteria for a lock in where they rock the night away. Each student is asked to approach friends, family members and neighbors to sponsor them for this event. Each student is expected to collect $250 towards our fundraising goals. Parents can help by signing up to be chaperones or to help in other ways the night of the event. DONATE NOW!
Cookie Sales (about every other Wednesday throughout the school year)
The Booster Club purchases cases of frozen cookie dough pieces and parent volunteers bake the cookies (in small ovens provided by Otis Spunkmeyer), bag them, and sell them to the students during their lunch break. Each bag contains 2 cookies and sells for $1.
Parents who participate in this fundraiser meet next to the cafeteria between 9 and 9:30 AM on scheduled cookie sales days. Baking is usually finished by 12:15 PM and sales end around 12:45 PM when the last lunch is over. work as their schedule permits and can come late or leave early if needed; the total time for each event is about 3 ½ hours.
This fundraiser averages approximately $600 in sales each time we bake. This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for parents that stay home, work from home or work part-time. It is a wonderful way to meet other parents and to find out what is going on in classrooms or with homework, especially if your child forgets to share information. The 2012 Band Cookie Sales Calendar is available here along with contact information. For more information contact the current Cookie Sales committee chairs.
Toyota Center (November – May)
Levy Restaurants, the company that sells concessions at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston, allows non-profit organizations to work concession at all Toyota Center events. Our group earns 10% of all sales for our booth. As a group, AHSBBBC typically works Rockets games but we also have the option to work all Aeros games, concerts and any other events held at the venue.
AHSBBBC has raised as much as $20,000 in a school year from working at Toyota Center. Anyone over 18 can work events but each person MUST be TABC certified and must take an online RCS training required by Levy Restaurants. AHSBBBC will pay for TABC certification but we do ask that you work at least two events so that we can recoup the certification costs. TABC certification is good for two years. At several times during the year, the booster club will arrange for a TABC certification class at Austin High School. Anyone interested in working Toyota Center with us is welcome to attend.
At Toyota Center, we work alongside Levy employees to run the concession stand. Levy employees manage the stand and do all food preparation. We take orders, pour beverages, present the food to the customers, and run the registers. It is a great opportunity to get involved and meet other band and Angel parents. For more information or to sign up for the Toyota Center team, please contact Debbie Hanks at debbiehanks@gmail.com. You can view the latest dates and communications from the Toyota Center committee here
Restaurant Nights
Occasionally, throughout the school year, we will have restaurant fundraiser nights. On these evenings, the Austin Band gets a percentage of all the sales at that restaurant. Often, the restaurant customer must tell the cashier at the restaurant that they are supporting the Austin Band. This is an easy way for us to earn great money for the band program. Watch your email and the website for notices about restaurant fundraisers.
