As you already know, SFA Bulldog Band will host a Dinner and Silent Auction in conjunction with our Annual Spring Concert on May 15, 2012 at the Stephen F. Austin High School cafeteria and auditorium.

Dinner will be served from 5:30 – 6:45. Several of the band parents are firing up the grills and we will be having grilled hamburgers or veggie burgers with all the trimmings, chips and lemonade.

Dinner tickets will cost $5.00 each and must be pre-purchased by May 11th. Please send cash or checks in an envelope marked “Concert Dinner” to the band hall prior to May 11th. Please make sure to include the Silent Auction Dinner Ticket Order Form 2012 with each order. Please note that no physical tickets will be issued. There will be a check list at the event. The Concert will begin at 7:00.

This year we sent a personal invitation to the incoming freshman band members in the hopes that we can introduce these families to our SFA music program as well as the SFA Band family. Please make special effort to greet them at the dinner.

On many occasions, I have asked you to volunteer your time to raise money for the band. I thank you all very much for your tireless efforts. This time, I have a different twist in the following request. This time, I am going to ask the students to volunteer their time to raise money for their band. The International Festival, (I-Fest) will be returning to Houston on the weekends of April 21 / 22 and April 28 / 29. One of our fellow band parents has set up food stands at the I-Fest in the past years. They have been gracious enough to allow the students to work the food stands, and in return, they have provided a generous amount of the proceeds to the band. The amount has exceeded several thousand dollars per year.

Here is the request: I would like for us to encourage the students to sign up this year to assist. There are 10 AM to 4 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM shifts on each day. We are still needing more students to sign up. From past years of experience, I can attest first hand that the students have an awesome time at the Festival, working together for the common love of the band. Certainly parents are welcome to volunteer as well. We will likely need a parent or two to drive some students to downtown Houston. Please get with Dustin Winson or Brian Stephens to sign up.

Also, just another reminder to come hungry to Mission Burrito, Thursday, April 19, 2012  between the hours of 4 PM to 9 PM. Mission Burrito is located  on the US 59 southbound frontage road @ SH 6, near Whole Food. They will donate 50% of all proceeds from those who simply come in and state that they support the Austin Bulldog Band and Angel Dance Team.

These calendars make great keepsakes for your student.  If  you are the creative type there are many great pictures for a collage for your graduating student or the Senior Legacy scrapbook project.  Underclassmen, if you don’t know what this is, ask a senior.   You’ll need lots of photos!

You AND Your Parents are cordially invited and strongly encouraged to attend the orientation meeting designed for you by your band directors at Austin High School.

 Come meet the band staff and some booster club parents to get some great information about what you and your child can expect as you begin this amazing journey with your new Bulldog Band Family.

 Here’s a little of what we have in store for you:

• MOST IMPORTANT ~ Students will receive audition materials and information
• Frequently asked questions and everything you always wanted to know about High School Band
• What are the requirements for marching season and concert season?
• What are some of the fees that will be necessary for band?
• Calendar of upcoming events – Including auditions, spring mini camp, summer band camp, etc.
• How do parents get involved?

Please plan to attend this very informative and fun meeting.  You will be way ahead of the game if you come and meet new friends.

Girls:

-       Full length black pants/slacks

-       Black shirt with sleeves (sleeves should cover at least shoulders)

-       Black closed toe shoes

Symphonic Band Boys:

-       Black pants/slacks

-       Black shirt (long sleeve, tucked in)

-       Black dress type shoes (marching shoes are acceptable)

-       Black socks

Honors Band Boys:

-       Black pants/slacks

-       White shirt (long sleeve, button-down, tucked in)

-       Black dress type shoes (marching shoes are acceptable)

-       Black socks

-       Black bow tie (provided by AHS- if you own one please use)

-       Black jacket (provided by AHS)

Sponsor Letter 2012 – this letter can be given to business sponsors which explains the fundraising event and the different ad sizes that businesses are eligible to place in the SFA Bulldog Band Spring Concert program depending on the size of their donation.

Donor Form 2012 – this form can be used along with the sponsor letter so that a business can mail in their donation or can also be used as a receipt for the business if a donation is received in person

SPRING DINNER, SILENT AUCTION & CONCERT

As a compliment to this year’s Spring Concert, the Bulldog Band will once again be having a Dinner and Silent Auction. This event will take everyone’s support and help to be successful. We will be asking for parent volunteers to set-up, serve food, monitor the auction tables, sell tickets, handle auction check-out and clean-up.

Every member of the band is responsible for providing a minimum of one item for the auction. The item can be donated by the community businesses, bought or made by you. Items should be valued at a minimum of $25.00, or you may choose to donate $25.00 cash (we will shop for you if you choose).

Some examples include:
• Restaurant Gift Certificates
• “Free” Oil Change Certificates
• Theatre Tickets
• Condo/Hotel for a Weekend
• Local Sporting Event Tickets
• Autographed Sports memorabilia
• Jewelry
• Limousine Ride
• Round of Golf
• Anything Crafty or Homemade – share your creativity
• Dental – Whitening Certificates
• Eye Exams by Optometrist

This is just a small sampling of successful items collected in past auctions. Please do not feel limited to these items. Solicit local merchants for donations and use your own contacts and creativity. There are two documents: (1) Sponsor letter that can be used to explain this fundraising event to sponsors and (2) Donor form that can be used by a business to mail in their donation or as a receipt if a donation is received in person. These two documents are sent out with this communication and will also be saved on the band website. All auction items are due to the band hall by Monday, April 30, 2012, to allow them to be prepared for the auction. We will be inviting local middle school band programs to attend the event in the hopes that we can introduce these families to our SFA music program as well as the SFA Band family. Each SFA Band member will be asked to invite family, friends and neighbors out for dinner, some great shopping and most importantly, an evening of outstanding music. More information on the dinner will be provided closer to the event.
